Celebrating 10 Years of True Love Yoga: A Decade of Community, Growth, and Heart

This year marks a milestone close to my heart: True Love Yoga turns 10 years old. What began as a spontaneous outdoor yoga class in 2015 has grown into a thriving community that has weathered ups, downs, and transformations—all while staying rooted in love, authenticity, and connection.

As I reflect on the past decade, I’m filled with gratitude for every student, teacher, and supporter who has helped shape this journey.

How It All Began

Back in March 2015, I put out a casual Facebook invite: “Who wants to practice yoga with me outside at the Nelson this weekend?” To my surprise, 50 people showed up. The next weekend, 100 came. That energy sparked Pop-Up Yoga KC, a series of community classes around Kansas City.

Soon after, I was offered a small studio space in the Crossroads. Though I didn’t feel “ready,” I said yes, and by September we opened our doors as Karma Tribe Yoga. The first class had no students, but before long, our community was thriving.

In 2016, we moved into our current space on Broadway—a former pharmacy transformed into a vibrant yoga studio with the help of countless volunteers, donated materials, and a lot of heart. Pallets, rope, corrugated aluminum, and even donated coffee bags became part of our unique, soulful space.

Growth, Change, and Resilience

In 2018, we launched our Yoga Teacher Training program, which has since graduated eight classes of incredible teachers. We also opened a second location, hosted Heartland Yoga Fest, and offered retreats near and far.

Then came 2020. The pandemic forced us online within three days, and while it was a challenge, it also expanded what was possible. We embraced hybrid learning, shifted our teacher training, and ultimately rebranded from Karma Tribe Yoga to True Love Yoga, a name that felt more aligned, inclusive, and authentic.

Through it all, this community has remained strong. Teachers, trainees, students, and work-traders have kept the heart of the studio beating, even in difficult seasons.

Lessons from a Decade

Over the years, I’ve learned that running a yoga studio is less about perfection and more about presence, creativity, and courage. Saying yes before you feel “ready.” Trusting the process. Holding space for joy, grief, growth, and everything in between.

Our studio has matured along with our community. We still love to play and celebrate, but our offerings have deepened: restorative yoga, Qigong, traditional Hatha practices, and trauma-informed approaches now enrich our schedule. Through it all, love for yoga remains at the center.

Looking Ahead

As we celebrate 10 years, I’m excited for the future. Our brand-new 300-Hour Advanced Yoga Teacher Training has just launched, offering experienced teachers a powerful path of growth and leadership.

Beyond that, I trust the next decade will bring surprises—opportunities to evolve, expand, and serve in ways I can’t yet imagine.

Thank You

To our students, teachers, team, community members, and my family: thank you. You’ve built this with me. You’ve supported the vision through every season. You’ve shown up, grown, and made True Love Yoga what it is today.

Here’s to the next 10 years of community, growth, and heart.

With gratitude,
Lauren
